the Longwoods are preserved forever, and forever is an awfully long time. Forever is long enough for fish and fowl to become neither… or both? These and other wondrous creatures are part of an upcoming two-year-long exhibition called One Less Traveled, at the Longwoods Preserve in Cumberland, Maine, curated by Josh Reiman — opening on June 23rd, 2025.

Birds are diving. Fish are flying. Anyone can do the math.

Sometime in the next short few billion-ish years, all fish will be fowl and all fowl will be fish,

Or all fowl and all fish will be neither, I guess?

Then consider the Tuna Loon, howling at noon, while the Bald Sturgeon lurks in her brackish lagoon.

Consider the Heron-Trout, thunderously grunting, as the Grackerel grins and the Duckardines dip and the Sharkadees flutter and frenzy and flit.

Consider the Minnow-Hawks skimming the grass, and the silvery shadow of the Great-Horned Wrasse, which presages ice cream when it crosses one's path,

And the Pinkish-Winged Oarfish, patrolling the pits, where the Venomous Angler Doves nurture their chicks, as the Googley-eyed Lantern Bantam scratches for diamonds, and the Ravenous Muskie-Swans roost beneath islands...

Friends, you'd best be advised that this future starts now -- an age of Aquavians, an age of fish-fowl!
